Supabase

What is Supabase?

Supabase is the open-source Firebase alternative. It provides a full PostgreSQL database, authentication, instant APIs, edge functions, real-time subscriptions, storage, and vector embeddings — everything you need to build modern applications.

Notes

You can find your anonymous key in the Environment Variables area under SERVICE_SUPABASEANON_KEY.

Public Port Access

To make the database publicly accessible:

  1. Set Supabase DB to public in the service settings.
  2. Go to the General tab, then Edit Compose File.
  3. Add the ports mapping to the supabase-db service:
supabase-db:
image: "supabase/postgres:15.6.1.146"
healthcheck:
test: "pg_isready -U postgres -h 127.0.0.1"
interval: 5s
timeout: 5s
retries: 10
depends_on:
supabase-vector:
condition: service_healthy
ports:
- ${POSTGRES_PORT:-5432}:${POSTGRES_PORT:-5432}
  1. Restart the service.

If changing to a different port, update POSTGRES_PORT in the environment variables.

Firewall Configuration

To allow external access to the PostgreSQL port through Docker networking:

ufw route allow proto tcp from any to any port 5432

For more information, see the ufw-docker documentation. If hosted on Hetzner, you can also open the port via Hetzner's firewall UI.
